About Us

Blackhill Conservation is run by Simon Wiltshire CEnv MCIEEM. Simon has a degree in Countryside and Environment Management and had an early career as a warden with the National Trust and Dorset Wildlife Trust as well as an agricultural contractor. For 13 years prior to setting up Blackhill Conservation he was a Biodiversity and Restoration Advisor for a large quarrying company.

Blackhill Conservation is inspired by the restoration of Blackhill Quarry on the East Devon Pebblebed Heaths. This is a site where an intensive land use has delivered significant benefits for wildlife, not just after extraction had ceased, but during quarrying. We want to see more sites like this, where wildlife can thrive alongside commercial operations and biodiversity is seen not as a constraint but an opportunity.

We specialise in mineral extraction sites but undertake work on all sorts of landholdings across the south west.
